Allowing our Certified Arborists to evaluate your landscape as a whole is one of the most valuable services we can provide the homeowner. Thorough landscape evaluation allows our Arborists to identify critical tree or shrub related concerns at your home while developing a carefully planned strategy for maintaining and maximizing the health and aesthetic value of your trees and shrubs based on their individual needs. You’ve heard the expression, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of treatment?” This couldn't be more true then when caring for trees and shrubs. Allowing us the opportunity to help you properly care for your existing trees while making recommendations for new plantings will likely save you a great deal of time, money and frustration, resulting in a more beautiful, natural setting you will be very proud of for many years to come.
Anytime we can avoid chemical treatment options to control insect or disease infestations, we do so. More often than not, we are able to minimize insect & disease pest threats through proper planning, maintenance and proactively caring for trees and shrubs. Remember…a tree that is well suited for its location and properly cared for is typically a strong, healthy tree, less vulnerable t to insect / disease pest threats. The likelihood & severity of the damage that can be caused by a specific insect or disease related pest varies greatly and largely determines what treatment option (if any) is necessary. For this, we offer a full range of treatment options including tree & soil injections, spray treatments, soil amendments and more to protect your green investments.
Sadly, our trees and shrubs have the odds stacked against them from the time of installation in most instances. This is because our soils are nearly void of essential micro-organisms and vital nutrients in addition to being heavily compacted. Our Biostimulant products are no question our “go to” as a means of reversing these critical concerns. When we incorporate Biostimulants into trees root zones we are literally bringing the forest to the trees in an urban landscape setting. This natural base product consists of beneficial fungi and bacteria, seaweed extracts, fish biproducts and many of our commonly deficient micro and macro nutrients here in the Midwest. By incorporating beneficial fungi and bacteria that work symbiotically with trees, we're enabling them to enhance their root systems and better provide for themselves. This product has proven invaluable in not only helping with establishment in newly planted trees but maintaining health and vitality, especially in situations where trees are threatened by deadly disease or adverse growing conditions.
Its not uncommon to see trees in our area with leaves that are very pale or yellow in color. This issue is referred to as Chlorosis, a very series abiotic disease of several species of trees in our area (Pin Oak, Red Maple, River Birch, Others). Essentially, our clay content soils are to blame. They do not allow the fine absorbing root mass of the tree to absorb the micro-nutrients they require in higher quantities. This causes trees to grow weaker over time, often leading to tree mortality. Fortunately, we can provide a treatment that yields excellent results quite quickly and for extended periods of time. By injecting the deficient nutrient directly into the trees vascular system we are able to correct the color of the foliage and restore health for typically 3-5 years, often saving the tree from decline and almost certain death.
Arguably the fastest growing and most important tool in the Arborist toolbox today. Growth Regulators continue to demonstrate their amazing ability to not only reduce (but in many cases reverse) the damaging effects of both environmental and the cultural stressors caused by man. Whether we’re attempting to save a tree from a life-threatening insect / disease threat, suppress the damage caused by drastic changes to its environment or just slow down growth, growth regulators have become an excellent tool.
In our area, one of the biggest concerns we have with our soil is that it is clay-content based. Clay content soils become compacted very easily due to the inability of the soil to properly drain, making it nearly impossible for your trees and shrubs absorbing root mass to develop or exist in those conditions. Soils remain saturated or waterlogged to long for most of our trees and shrubs to survive. With compressed air tools we can recondition the soils throughout the critical root zone and incorporate (mix in) organic materials all at the same time! By reconditioning the soil into a coffee-ground-like consistency while incorporating organic matter, we’re creating a much more suitable soil environment for your plants, dramatically improving their chances for establishment and long-term success. The same can be said for removing the excess soil or mulch around the base of your trees which will inevitably lead to decline and shortened longevity. Furthermore, if you’re worried about how your construction project may negatively affect your trees (cutting roots, compacting soil, grade changes) this process will greatly reduce those risks.
Let us come out and evaluate your landscape, specifically the site location you’re interested in planting trees and shrubs. We can then make suggestions and offer options for species that will not only offer the best chance of survival but possibly the most flattering qualities to compliment your unique landscape. We’re on hundreds of properties a year. This allows us to see what works well locally and what does not. This is how we help our valued customers avoid throwing good money after bad by purchasing plants that will not likely survive or are pest prone plants that will require extensive, costly treatments. Sadly, its often after warranties expire that folks come to realize that their tree or shrub needs be replaced. This brief consultation is a great way to avoid the of spending a great deal of time and money on trees and shrubs that weren't the right choice from the start.
Pruning is not only vital to maintaining your trees and shrubs aesthetic value within your landscaping but an integral part of minimizing insect / disease pest threats, keeping your trees and shrubs healthy, structurally sound and developing properly over time. With pruning it’s important to remember that only the science can be taught, never the artistic ability of the pruner. Therefore, it’s critical you choose your pruning company carefully. Repairing a flawed pruning job typically takes several years and often is irreversible. Never be afraid to ask for nearby references to avoid hiring a less skilled or qualified company. There are several different types of pruning techniques to satisfy different objectives. Most trees and shrubs have specific times of year that are better or vital to when they are pruned for numerous different physiological reasons. You may wish to reduce the mess that comes from falling branches and leaves? You may want to maximize your smaller landscape footprint by making your trees and shrubs fit better? You may want to promote certain growth to screen roads, neighbors or create sound barriers? Maybe just accentuate a magnificent tree specimen? No matter what your objective, we’d love to offer our skilled pruning services!
